Improving Staff Flexibility and Minimising Absenteeism

Apart from oversupply putting services under pressure nationally, the increased cost of operation ultimately flowing form the new CCSS implementation and the next national wage increase scheduled for 1 July, providers and managers are looking for ways to improve the flexibility of their workforce and manage absenteeism to minimise costs.

With over half a services gross income expended on wages and staff on-costs, minor efficiency gains in staffing can yield significant financial benefits.

Key focus areas of this seminar will be:

  • equipping participants with better ways to manage working hours and attendance and how to vary arrangements to suit operational needs without breaching "Family Friendly Arrangement" requirements.
  • how not be held to ransom by staff who - "don't want to change" or "have always done it this way" or "have spoken to fair work/the union/my uncle, and you cant make me do that"
  • managing staff during pregnancy and on return to work, what are everyones rights including the employer.

More specifically we will cover:

  • Flexible Working Arrangements - what are your obligations under the Fair Work Act and Family Friendly Arrangements.
  • When do you need a "Flexibility Agreement" and what are they good for.
  • Effective Rostering - Setting on commencement and changing working hours or shift arrangements - How to be in control!
  • The difference between rostered hours, additional hours and overtime hours and how this can work for your service.
  • Managing staff pregnancy, access to personal leave/unpaid special maternity leave or paid no safe work leave and "stress and anxiety".
  • Restructuring & Redundancy.
