Award Changes You May

have missed in 2018

A must attend information session focused on changes to both the Children’s Services and the Educations Services awards in 2018, that significantly impact the way we run our services.

We will also look at the unions current application for increased wages for Teachers and implications that will have for the sector now and in 2020.

Who Should Attend?

Approved Providers, Directors, Nominated Supervisors and Administrative Staff.

What Will You Get?

Copies of extracts from the awards, a description of how the clause operates, its effect on day to day operations and strategies to minimise this impact

We will specifically look at:

  • Family friendly working arrangements - what are your obligations from 1 December 2018 to provide staff with flexible working arrangements that are sympathetic to their family or personal needs.   Can you say no to changes and on what grounds?
  • Changes to termination provisions and job search entitlements during notice - Employers must allow staff to attend interviews during the paid notice period.   How to we accommodate this but not be left paying for staff who aunt at work.   If an employee gives notice and walks out the door, can I still withhold wages they would have earned.   do I have to let them attend job?
  • Consultation about changes to rosters or hours of work - what constitutes consultation?   How do I stop a staff member from taking me to the fair work commission if they don't like their new roster? what if an employee doesn't want to change their roster?
  • Leave for family and domestic violence. - even though its unpaid leave, how can I manage it and on what grounds and proof can it be claimed as it extends to supporting family and members of the household.
  • Consultation about major workplace change - changes in production, program, organisation, structure or technology that are likely to have significant effects on employees - what does it mean and what do you have to do and when?
  • Dispute resolution - Consultation is a major factor with any change to staff arrangements.   Individuals, who wish to dispute an employer’s decision can take them to the Fair Work Commission to have the matter determined.
  • Individual flexibility Arrangements - how have these agreements changed and what can you do with them particularly in relation to working hours, rostering and time of in lieu.
